Civic Engagement

Engage your interests. Become the change we need.

Civic Engagement collaborates with community-based organizations to prepare students to be socially responsible leaders and citizens through purposeful action, reflection, and learning. We run a wide variety of programs that include providing direct service and opportunities to reflect on that service inside and outside of a classroom setting.

Supporting Communities in Crisis

Puerto Rico Flag

Almost five years to the day after experiencing the devastation of Hurricane Maria, the island of Puerto Rico was hit by another catastrophic storm. Hurricane Fiona has caused flooding, landslides, and power outages across the island at a time when Puerto Rico was still struggling to recover. At a time when infrastructure is unable to support material donations, organizations like Philadelphia’s own Taller Puertorriqueño, which has close ties to organizations in Puerto Rico, are collecting monetary donations to support the distribution of food, water, shelter, and medical services. Donations made through Taller Puertorriqueño will support direct services to affected communities and first responders.

Constitution Day

Constitution Day, observed annually on Sept. 17, celebrates the official signing of the U.S. Constitution, which took place on that day in 1787. Join the Career & Civic Engagement in commemorating this day by participating in several special events both on and off campus.

Volunteer on Your Own

Students wishing to volunteer on their own can ask us for recommendations of organizations to contact and can receive reimbursement (50%) for their travel expenses.
