Summer 2023 Updates

Modifications for the 2023 Summer Internship Funding Program

  • College-funded in person, hybrid or remote work is permitted for the summer of 2023.  Please communicate with your organizations to determine the best plan for both you and them.  The following are examples of what is permitted with funding from the Career & Civic Engagement Center Summer Internship Funding Program.  As a reminder, internships must meet the minimum of 240 hours to be considered full-time or 120 hours to be part-time across a minimum of 8-10 weeks.
    • Fully remote internship for the entire summer
    • Hybrid internship (combination of remote and in-person)
    • In-person internships (must meet the minimum of 240 hours to be considered full-time or 120 hours to be part-time across 8-10 weeks)
  • For the Summer of 2023 there are approved international internship programs.  These programs include: Laɣim Tehi Tuma/Thinking Together in Ghana, Sijal Institute in Jordan, the Innovation Academy in Germany, Career & Civic Engagement Center IES Abroad internships in Germany, Chile, and Austria, internships that are in one’s home country, self-designed internships in the countries where students are currently studying abroad during spring academic semester, and internships funded through the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship at Haverford College.
    • Approved, funded international internships are offered through Career & Civic Engagement Center’s partnership with IES Abroad.  All IES Abroad internships offered through Career & Civic Engagement (Chile, Austria, and Germany) are fully funded including travel, housing, and program costs. Deadline: Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023 at 11:59pm ET
    • Approved, fully funded, international internships are offered through Career & Civic Engagement Center’s partnerships with Laɣim Tehi Tuma/Thinking Together Summer Action Research Fellowship in Dalun, Ghana. Deadline: Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023 at 11:59pm ET
    • Approved, fully funded, international internships are also offered through the Sijal Institute in Amman, Jordan, and the Innovation Academy in Germany.  The Center’s internship partner website will be updated soon with deadlines as they vary for each of these programs.
    • Approved international internships are offered through Career & Civic Engagement Center’s partnership with Haverford’s Center for Peace and Global Citizenship’s International Fellowship Programs. There is specific funding for self-design and partnership internships for Bryn Mawr students. Deadline: Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023 at 11:59pm ET
    • If you are an international student residing in your home country, we will support in-person, hybrid or remote internships in your home country. For the purpose of the Summer Internship Funding Program, these are not considered international internships, so the deadline for application is the domestic internship deadline of April 23.  Self-designed internships in the countries where students are currently studying abroad during spring academic semester are considered approved international internship programs.  For the purpose of the Summer Internship Funding Program, these are considered international internships but because travel, vaccinations, and other pre-departure planning will not need to take place, the deadline for application is the domestic internship deadline of April 23.
    • The Career & Civic Engagement Center is piloting the return of support for self-designed international internships for the summer of 2023. The deadline to apply for funding  is Sunday, March 5 at 11:59PM. Approval is based on the following criteria:
      • One of the three options below must be met:
        • The internship abroad is offered through a college, university or other academic/research institution; or
        • The internship abroad is offered through an established organization; or
        • The internship abroad is a program offered through an organization that is an established study abroad program provider (i.e. IES Abroad); or
      • In addition to one of the four options above, all of the following must be met:
        • The organization has published health and safety plans to support student participants; and
        • The organization has a working website; and
        • The organization has an organized internship program; and
        • Other students are interning with the organization; and
        • The opportunity is defined as internship as noted through the organization’s website and/or internship posting. Volunteer opportunities and academic courses are not considered; and
        • If outside of the U.S., the internship may not be in a country with a level four travel warning from the U.S. State Department. Travel to locations with a level 3 warning must be reviewed by the College.

    • Deadline for domestic self-design summer internship funding is 11:59PM ET on Sunday, April 23. You must submit your summer funding application with your internship of interest to be considered for summer funding.  Late summer funding applications will not be accepted.
      • Decisions for funding will only be made for applications that include a completed Organization Verification Form. The deadline to submit the Organization Verification form is April 24 at 11:59 pm ET.

Additional rounds could open if there is funding remaining after the first two deadlines.  When this has been possible in past two years, the funding available to be dispersed in additional rounds is typically only enough to support 5-8 additional students. Additionally, COVID restrictions made it more likely that additional funding remained after the original deadlines in past few years, so we cannot guarantee that there will be another round of funding in April 2023 but wanted to let you know of this possibility.

Please contact Jennifer Prudencio at jprudencio@brynmawr.edu to schedule a 1:1 appointment or schedule an appointment in Handshake and select "internship funding" as the appointment type for additional question about funding deadlines.
