Academic Opportunities

You have opportunities to participate in a cluster of multiple courses connecting students and faculty to focus on common problems, themes, and experiences for the purposes of research and scholarship.

You can take classes and explore new disciplines at Haverford, Swarthmore, and the University of Pennsylvania. There are even opportunities to major or pursue combined degrees at other institutions.

This semester-long program facilitates engagement with the diversity, complexity, innovation, and systems of the city, which enhances the classroom experience by providing a sense of place, helping students learn firsthand how the material in the courses is informed by the environment around them.

You can take advanced courses offered through Bryn Mawr's two graduate schools, enter combined-degree programs, and, depending on your field and preparation, earn a master's degree either at the same time as a bachelor's degree or one year later.

You can explore different career options and learn about professional opportunities in your field by shadowing professionals in their workplace or engaging in virtual career conversations. 

The Balch Seminars are taught by scholar/teachers of distinction within their fields and across academic disciplines and introduce you to a critical, probing, thoughtful approach to the world and our roles in it by challenging you to think about complex, wide-ranging issues from a variety of perspectives.

Your research, scholarly pursuits, or travel could be funded by the College. A number of funding opportunities are available to you through Dean's Office Awards, Fellowships, Mini-Grants, and Summer Funding Scholarships.

You are encouraged to participate in internships, or short-term work experiences that allow you to participate and observe in a professional working environment and explore your career interests.

Praxis is an experiential, community-based learning program that integrates theory and practice through student engagement in active, relevant fieldwork that is integrated into academic courses.

If you choose to study abroad, you'll have the opportunity to experience academic, professional, and personal growth surrounded by the culture and practices of a different country.

If you aren't interested in study abroad, you may want to consider domestic study away, which allows you to study as a visiting student at another institution within the United States.

Science majors are encouraged to conduct mentored research projects during the summer and during the academic year. You can work alongside STEM faculty in the lab or in the field, earning a stipend and even academic credit for your work.
