October 2026 Updates
Project Updates as of October 26, 2026
Description: The project will construct a two-course seating wall designed to accommodate more than 120 spectators, providing improved seating for athletic events and other campus activities.
Status: Enabling work is scheduled to begin the week of November 2nd. Delivery of block should occur in mid-November. The work is scheduled to be completed in early December.
Impacts: During active construction, the campus community can expect temporary walkway closures near the construction area, with directional signage posted for alternate routes. The project will also involve increased construction vehicle activity, and traffic flaggers will be used to direct trucks and vehicles along the Schwartz Gymnasium driveway. Please follow all posted signage and directions from construction personnel, and do not enter fenced construction areas.
Description: Facilities Services and the Director of Sustainability and Environmental Action, Neha Sood, are partnering to develop a comprehensive scope of work that will address key maintenance needs and support the long-term functionality and preservation of Batten House. This collaborative effort reflects our commitment to ensuring that the building remains a valuable resource for the College community for years to come.
Status: The project scope is being finalized. Once it's finalized, a project schedule and timeline will be established late 2026/early 2027 and shared on the Facilities Projects website. Facilities Services will continue to keep the College community informed as planning progresses and additional details become available.
Impacts: The building is off-line. We recognize the importance of Batten House to many members of our community and appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued interest as we work thoughtfully toward these next steps.
Description: Expansion of the College's Access Control System (ACS).
Status: Installation of ACS in buildings will be performed in three (3) stages. Stage 1: Old Library, Park Science Complex and John Maloney Building; Stage 2: Helfarian, Thorne School, Ward Building and Wyndham; and Stage 3: Cartref, English House, and West House. Stage 1 is currently underway. The ACS will be tested and is scheduled to be fully functional by late November.
Impacts: There will be some noise and construction activity in the general area where work is being performed. While work is being performed at a door, traffic will be re-route to alternate doors for entering and exiting the buildings. The doors will be clearly marked, and temporary barricades will be set up during working hours. The doors will remain fully functional when work is not being performed.
Description: Full Implementation of the new campus-wide fire alarm receiver system.
Status: Installation of receiver system and equipment was completed in June. Testing and inspection of the system by Lower Merion Township is now complete. Decommissioning of the legacy system will occur throughout the month of November.
Impacts: Decommissioning of the legacy system will require work at the building plans. There will be some noise and activity within the buildings during decommissioning.
Description: Modernization of Classroom 110
Status: Renovation work will continue through the Fall Semester.
Impact: The classroom will be off-line for the Fall Semester. There will be some noise and construction activity within the building.
