Facilities Projects

Description: Facilities Services and the Director of Sustainability and Environmental Action, Neha Sood, are partnering to develop a comprehensive scope of work that will address key maintenance needs and support the long-term functionality and preservation of Batten House. This collaborative effort reflects our commitment to ensuring that the building remains a valuable resource for the College community for years to come.

Status:  The project scope is being finalized.  Once it's finalized, a project schedule and timeline will be established late 2026/early 2027 and shared on the Facilities Projects website. Facilities Services will continue to keep the College community informed as planning progresses and additional details become available.  

Impacts: The building is off-line.  We recognize the importance of Batten House to many members of our community and appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued interest as we work thoughtfully toward these next steps.

Description: The elevator failed the required State weighted test inspection due to a leak in the hydraulic system.  The repair includes removal of the existing hydraulic jack components, installation of a new jack assembly and PVC liner, related pit work, system testing,  and Pennsylvania State inspection coordination.

Status:  The jack assembly has been order and expediated State approval is underway.  The estimated delivery of the new jack assembly is schedule for mid to late September.  

Impacts: The elevator is OUT OF SERVICE.  

Description: Full Implementation of the new campus-wide fire alarm receiver system.

Status:  Installation of receiver system and equipment was completed in June.  Testing and inspection of the system by Lower Merion Township is now complete. Decommissioning of the legacy system will occur throughout the month of August. 

Impacts: Decommissioning of the legacy system will require work at the building plans. There will be some noise and activity within the buildings during decommissioning.

Description: Replace the current switch with a code compliant switch and replacing the oldest underground cable on campus. This will improve reliability and will minimize the impact of future maintenance and construction by allowing for the isolation of segments of the loop.

Status: On-site work is wrapping up.  The contractor is performing punch list work.   

Impacts:  There will be minor noise and limited construction activity outside of Pembroke East and Guild Hall.    

Description:  Modernization of Classroom 110

Status:  Renovation work will continue through the Fall Semester. 

Impact:  The classroom will be off-line for the Fall Semester.  There will be some noise and construction activity within the building.

Description:  Repairs to parapet outside the sitting room on the inside of Pembroke Arch.

Status:  Interior work has been completed.  The contractor is installing stonework on the exterior of the building.  The final exterior repairs wrapping up in mid-September 2026.

Impact:  There will be some noise and construction activity around the living room area.

Description: A new Physics lab will be constructed in Park 234.

Status: On-site construction is wrapping up.  The contractor performing punch list work to complete the lab.  The lab has been turned over for use.

Impact: There will be minor noise as the punch list is completed.

Description: A new Physics Quantum Sensing & Materials lab will be constructed in Park 147/148/149.

Status: On-site construction has commenced.  The anticipated completion of the work is scheduled for mid September 2026.

Impact: There will be some noise and construction activity in the general area of the Lab.

Description:  Dredging both the main pond basin and forebay of the pond.

Status:  The dredging work is wrapping up.  The contractor will be on-site performing site restoration work.

Impact:  There will be minor construction noise in the area of the pond as the site around the pond is restored.
