Conferences are 40-60 minute conversations about works-in-progress. You may visit at any point in the process, whether you've just received the assignment or already have a complete draft.
What is a conference like?
Tutors are smart, general readers. They ask questions to help you clarify your thinking, and they share their understanding of what's written on the page so that you can decide whether your intended meaning is accurately conveyed. They suggest options and strategies for planning, drafting, and revising. Their goal is to help you not only to finish the current assignment, but also to become a better writer.
How do I meet with a tutor?
Walk-ins are always welcome. Arrive at the beginning of the hour and ask a tutor on duty whether anyone is available to meet with you. If no one is available, we'll reserve the next open appointment for you.
Or, create an account and make an appointment on our online schedule. The dropdown menu at the top of the schedule makes it easy to find a public speaking tutor, ESOL specialist, or foreign language tutor. Students may make two appointments per week. Please learn how to make the most of your conference and read our policies before your first visit.
