Swarthmore College

Last updated August 13, 2025.

Swarthmore will begin registering students for Fall 2025 in August.  All questions regarding registration status, should be directed to the Bryn Mawr College Registrar's Office at registrar@brynmawr.edu.

Swarthmore Fall Semester: Sept 2-Dec. 10, 2025.
Bryn Mawr students' last day to add a course is Monday, September 15, 2025.
Last day of exams at Swarthmore: 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 20, 2025. (Final examinations are not rescheduled to accommodate travel plans.)

Step 1:
Check the Swarthmore website for courses you are interested in. Bryn Mawr students should enroll in a full 4 unit schedule within the Bi-Co.

Applies to All Non-Linguistics Courses

Step 2: Contact Instructor for Course Permission—form available here. Students, please PRINT out this form and sign it and then scan/take a photo of it and email to the Swarthmore instructor.

Applies to All Non-Linguistics Courses

Step 3: Permission and Registration
Forward the form with permission from the instructor to both the Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Registrars' Offices (registrar@brynmawr.edu and registrar@swarthmore.edu). You will then hear from your home school Registrar about your enrollment, this will likely happen at the end of the summer.  Please direct any questions to your home school.  Please do not contact Swarthmore unless you are a Swarthmore student.

Applies to All Non-Linguistics Courses

Since the Linguistics department at Swarthmore is part of the TriCo Linguistics department, students may register for the course directly in BiONiC. Your registration will be sent directly to Swarthmore. If your registration is not accepted due to over-enrollment (or any other factor) you will be notified of the results. If you don't see a Linguistics course in BiONiC that is being offered, please let the Bryn Mawr Registrar's Office know.

Cross-listed courses should use the non-Linguistics form here and sent to both the Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Registrars' Offices (registrar@brynmawr.edu and registrar@swarthmore.edu). For Linguistics Majors who intend to take a Linguistics course that is cross-listed, please use the "SWAT S999" placeholder in your Bionic registration.

Once you have the Swarthmore ASL course instructor's permission, please send the complete Swarthmore ASL course permission form, here

Registration is not complete until you return the emailed permission to both Registrars' Offices by September 10, 2025.

After submitting this form if you decide to drop any Swarthmore course, please notify the Registrar’s office at both institutions.

Swarthmore's Academic Calendar is not the same as Bryn Mawr. Please make sure you review when Swarthmore classes start and end (often this is the day before Bryn Mawr starts classes) and if they are changing their meeting schedule during the semester to make up missed days.

Bryn Mawr students taking classes at Swarthmore will receive an email with a user name and password to log in to Swarthmore's Moodle site.

The Tri-Co bus schedule is available here.

University of Pennsylvania

Bryn Mawr students may enroll in courses at Penn as guest students through an agreement called the Quaker Consortium.

Fall 2025 Key Dates:

  • The last day to submit a new Penn course request is August 1, 2025. Penn will begin enrolling Bryn Mawr students on August 4, 2025. The Penn course request form will close at noon on August 19, 2025.
  • Classes at Penn begin on August 26, 2025.
  • The last day to drop a Penn course is September 10, 2025.
  • A seat in a Penn course is never guaranteed. As always, have a backup course planned, and the Bryn Mawr Honor Code is in effect.
  • Penn final exams will be December 11-18, 2025.
  • Penn's Academic calendar can be found here.

Submit a completed Quaker Consortium Registration Form for approval (form opens date April 7, 2025, and closes on August 19, 2025).  [No paper forms accepted – students may only submit the online form].  Please check for restrictions and special approval requirements within Path@Penn in advance and confirm seat availability at https://courses.upenn.edu before submitting requests. Forms will be submitted to Penn on a rolling basis by August 1, 2025, and Penn will begin Bryn Mawr students in Penn courses on August 4, 2025. It is likely that you won't hear about your course enrollment until very close to the start of classes.

  • View the LPS Course Guide here or view the Language Center offerings or search Penn's website by the department you are interested in and find courses on each department's website.  Use that undergraduate course information to complete the course request form. Per Penn's policy, Quaker Consortium students may only take courses not offered at their home institution. Please read Penn's full Quaker Consortium information page here.
  • View the Penn's Academic Calendar here.
  • Students cannot audit courses at Penn.
  • Here is the Quaker Consortium Agreement document.
  • Bryn Mawr students are allowed to enroll in undergraduate courses offered by the College of Liberal and Professional Studies, the Language Center, or the College of Arts and Sciences (courses numbered 0001-4999).
  • Bryn Mawr students do not have priority in Penn classes.  A seat in a Penn class is never guaranteed and students should always have a back up Tri-Co course in mind when planning their schedules.
  • Penn will begin processing registration requests on August 4, 2025. Students will start to receive emails about your course request status starting in mid-August through the start of the semester.
  • If you see "restrictions" on a course in Path@Penn, please read them carefully. If permission is required for the course, please follow the steps here. Always include the fact that you are a "Quaker Consortium Student from Bryn Mawr College" in any correspondence with Penn. IMPORTANT: if you get a notification from Penn that you got permission for a course, please forward that email to the Bryn Mawr Registrar's office [registrar@brynmawr.edu] immediately as permission in Penn courses is first-come, first-served, and does not reserve a seat for you. Note: Penn Instructors do not manage enrollment and can't help you with course permission, please do not reach out to them. Please direct any questions to the Bryn Mawr Registrar's office. Please be aware that permission does not override capacity, so if the course is full, even if you have permission, you will not get a seat in the course.
  • If you are a Bryn Mawr student who has accommodations and you want to receive accommodations at Penn, and you are enrolled in a Penn course, you will be able to access Penn's Disability Services. You will receive instructions from both Bryn Mawr and Penn about this process once enrolled.

Students will receive and email with instructions regarding your Path@Penn, PennKey, and other next steps. If you receive login credentials, the student is responsible for checking to see if they are registered for the course they requested at Penn.  For any changes, adds/drops/withdrawals, Bryn Mawr students must contact the Bryn Mawr Registrar's office.

IMPORTANT: if you get a notification from Penn that you got permission for a course, please forward that email to the Bryn Mawr Registrar's office [registrar@brynmawr.edu] immediately as permission in Penn courses is first-come, first-served, and does not reserve a seat for you. Please be aware that permission does not override capacity, so if the course is full, even if you have permission, you will not get a seat in the course.
Note: Penn Instructors do not manage enrollment and can't help you with course permission, please do not reach out to them. Please direct any questions to the Bryn Mawr Registrar's office.

Villanova University

Bryn Mawr students may enroll in courses at Villanova as guest students.  Courses are treated as transfer credit on the Bryn Mawr transcript.

Bryn Mawr juniors and seniors in good academic standing may take one course per semester in the College of Arts and Sciences at Villanova University on a space-available basis, provided that the course is not offered at Bryn Mawr or Haverford. If the course is fully enrolled, Bryn Mawr students can be admitted only with the permission of the Villanova instructor. This exchange is limited to superior students for work in their major or in an allied field. Students must have permission of both their major adviser and their dean.

Courses at Villanova may be taken only for full grade and credit; Bryn Mawr students may not elect Villanova’s pass/fail option for a Villanova course. Credits earned at Villanova are treated as transfer credits; students must earn grades of C or better to transfer Villanova courses, the grades are not included in the student’s grade point average, and these courses do not count toward the residency requirement.

In order to register for a course at Villanova, students should consult the Villanova Course Guide, and obtain a registration form to be returned to the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar’s Office forwards all registration information to Villanova; students do not register at Villanova. Students enrolled in a course at Villanova are subject to Villanova’s regulations and must meet all Villanova deadlines regarding dropping/adding, withdrawal and completion of work. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for variations in academic calendars. Students should consult their deans if they have any questions about Villanova courses or registration procedures.

Bryn Mawr students enrolled in courses at Swarthmore, the University of Pennsylvania, or Villanova are subject to the regulations of these institutions. Students are responsible for informing themselves and remaining in compliance with these regulations as well as with Bryn Mawr regulations.
